Minnesota Building Permit
Technicians Association
"The goal of the
Minnesota Building Permit Technicians
Association is to provide, promote, and
support education,
networking, professionalism,
certification, and recognition
of its membership."
Our members work
closely with homeowners, builders,
building inspectors and
officials to coordinate successful
building projects.
In addition, this organization stresses
education for our members in order to
further
validate our role in the building
process.

Hi there!
I’m Barb
Williams, MBPTA’s 2010 President.
Recognition for the vital role we play in the
building industry was a founding goal in 1997.
ICC’s Permit Tech Certificate and MN’s
Vocational Certificate are proof of those
efforts. However, with the industry’s huge
downturn, it has been difficult for
individuals to take classes or seminars which
further this effort. Perhaps their
jurisdiction’s budget didn’t allow it or their
department is so under-staffed they cannot
leave work or maybe the classes aren’t even
being offered. The thinner our departments are
stretched, the more those of us who are left
‘standing’ are being relied upon. This is
where MBPTA comes in...
